Web Marketing Optimization (WMO) is a methodology to optimize the Return On Investment (ROI) of web marketing activities. The goal is to find the best resource allocation among different web marketing channels to acquire effective traffic at the lowest cost.

Using a single number to indicate the effectiveness of a company’s web marketing activities has the advantage that enterprises can evaluate and compare their marketing effort efficiencies easily. Possible web marketing channels include but not limited to: online marketplace, search engine optimization, and online advertisement. Online ads can be further classified into banner ads, keyword ads, content ads etc. If the promoted target is a product instead of a brand name, average Cost per Click (CPC) on the destination page is a good index to measure the effectiveness of the web marketing activities. Where the destination page is a page usually only targeted customers will visit.

The optimum is usually a combination of multiple marketing efforts. For example, the average CPC after joining a marketplace and purchasing search engines optimization service is usually lower than the average CPC of doing only one of them. This is because joining a marketplace also improves the ranking at search engines.

網路行銷最佳化( Web Marketing Optimization, WMO)是一門探究如何在不同的網路行銷方法間分配預算,以提升投資報酬率的學問。其目的是協助企業將有限的預算,做最有效的配置,用最低的價格取得有效的人潮。

首先我們必須先找出一個成本函數,其值的大小可以代表一個企業的網路行銷諸活動是否有效率。可能的網路行銷活動,至少包含:加入網路市集、進行網站排名優化、及購買網路廣告。而網路廣告又可區分為橫幅廣告、關鍵字廣告、內容廣告等。如果企業想要推廣的目標是一項產品,而不是品牌的話,可用每次目的網頁被點擊的成本(Cost Per Click, CPC)來做為成本函數。能達成目的網頁最低CPC的預算分配方式,就是一個最佳的網路行銷規劃。 所謂目的網頁就是通常只有企業要的客戶才會到訪的網頁。

通常最佳的行銷規劃都是由多項行銷活動所組成。例如:既加入市集網站也購買網站排名服務後,所得到的平均點擊成本,會比只購買一項服務的平均點擊成本低。這是因為加入網路市集也有助於提升網站的排名。
