To determine the direction, or bearings, from one point to another, you need a compass as well as a map. In order to find out the direction of target on the map, you can use map compasses no matter when and where.
The method of using a map compass is very simple. First, place the map compass on the map and join together the "start" and "destination" with the long edge of the compass base-plate. And rotate the compass housing until the orienting arrow and lines point N on the map. Lastly, rotate the map and compass together until the red end of the compass needle points north and follow the direction of travel arrow on the compass, keeping the needle aligned with the orienting arrow on the housing.
