FAQ



1. Is there any fee to enter the competition?
Participation in the competition is free.



2. Where can I enter my idea and how will I find the idea database?
Enter www.galileo-masters.com or www.satnav-competition.com and you will find the idea database. Look for a button under ¡§How to participate¡¨, on which you will find (registration / login) on the right side. Please press this button and enter the extensive database of the Munich trade fair organization. The database infrastructure holds the idea database on a secure server.



3. Where do I find the registration template and what do I have to do next?
Upon your first visit, the registration template will always be the first page of the database. For registration purposes, you have to select your home region or your favoured region first. If you are not located in one of our seven partner regions, you have to choose your preferred region. Please note that in case you will become the overall winner, you will receive an office in this selected region for a 6 months period of time at no charge. Please be sure that you feel comfortable with your choice in a winning situation.



4. Do I need a working prototype of my idea in order to join the competition?
You will not need a prototype. A very specific drawing or picture would however be very helpful to the experts for the evaluation of your idea.



5. I do not have a business set up for my idea. What should I enter for the business name in the online registration form?
You may also use a nickname.



6. My idea does not only include an application, but may also be a new satellite navigation device. May I join the competition also with an idea for a device?
Your idea may also be a device with a specific satellite navigation application. If your device is authentically brand-new, please do not hesitate to join the competition. Last year one of the regional winners of the Galileo Masters presented a device as well.



7. Is it possible to illustrate the idea with a drawing or picture?
Yes it is, you can upload two pictures with a maximum size of 1MB each into the database. Only gif-, jpg- and png-files are accepted.



8. How many questions will I find in the database?
A total of 30 questions have to be answered by you. Some questions are multiple choice and some questions have to be answered in writing.



9. Is it possible to join the competition with an idea, but without a business plan?
Yes it is, we are running an idea competition and not a business plan competition. Please be aware that the better you describe your idea the greater the chances are to win the competition. A business plan is normally very well suited to review the idea and to optimize the logic behind your idea.



10. I have more than one idea. Is it possible to join the competition with two or more ideas?
Each individual applicant may enter one idea only under his username.



11. What is the difference between a regional winner and the overall winner?
The regional winner will be selected by the regional expert team in each country. The overall winner will be selected out of 12 regional winners and 4 special topic winners. The evaluation is done by 16 experts who will be nominated by each region and each special topic sponsor. Last but not least, each expert has to evaluate 16 ideas.
After accomplishing this process we will have found the overall winner.



12. Do the evaluation experts know my name?
Each idea will get its own identification number. During the evaluation process the experts are only able to see this ID. Not before the best two ideas are found, will the experts be informed about the participant¡¦s name.



13. How many times may I work on my idea at the database?
The database is open from May 1st to July 31st, 2008 and you may have access to it as often as you like. During the registration process you have to select a password and a login. This access code makes it possible for you to work on your idea as often and as long as you need to. Please be careful and look after your password.



14. How long do I have to wait until I know that I am one of the regional winners or even the overall winner?
The final meeting of the international expert panel will take place in the middle of September. After this meeting we will pass the results on to you via e-mail.



15. May I join the competition without a patent?
Please note that by participating in the EUROPEAN SATELLITE NAVIGATION COMPETITION 2008 (Galileo Masters) and/or by publishing your idea during the award ceremony, any protection of your idea (if not recently protected by applying for a patent) may be excluded or may be lost. Your idea may become common property. We therefore strongly recommend that you protect your idea sufficiently.



16. What will happen to my idea in case I am not one of the winners?
You will have the opportunity to get in touch with your region, and perhaps you will be supported in every respect. Please do not think that your idea was not good enough. Many good ideas will only be identified as such during a second review.
The ideas themselves will be destroyed after the end of the competition except for the ideas of the regional winners and that of the overall winner.
