Sodium Lamp (HPS) is a version of a LPS light, came nearly 30 years after the development of the LPS and is a result of development of an arc tube to that can withstand sodium at high pressures. Most HPS lights need an igniter to provide a starting voltage of 2.5kV or more to start up.
