Multi-color ECB (electrically controlled birefringence) LCD makes use of an electric field to manipulate the birefringence of the liquid crystal. Varying an applied voltage causes the LCD to exhibit different colors on the display. The conventional range of application of an LCD is enlarged by its color plurality property. Picvue's multi-color ECB can display up to seven colors, and their costs are much less than conventional color LCD which depends on a color filter for color generation. Applications: games, personal digital assistant, cellular phone, global positioning system, consumer electronics, etc.
