Startek Engineering Inc. was established in 1989 by Dr. Wen-Hsing Hsu, Dr. Hsu brought his expertise in optics, electronic engineering, imaging processing, patents of pattern recognition and software to the Company. With a group of local technical talents, in a region considered as the Silicon Valley of Taiwan, Startek produced their first live-scan fingerprint identification prototype FIC-2000 in 1990, and then put it into production in 1991. The second product, a fingerprint verifier, FingerCheck FC-100 which was released in 1993, won the iF Industrial Forum Design Award from Hanover CeBIT, Germany. For years Startek's products have been chosen by the Taiwan government as its flagship products to represent the new and innovative image of Taiwan. Startek has registered some of its research results as patents and, copyrighted its products in several countries. Several Asian newspaper and magazines such as The Economist, EDN Asia, and others have reported the achievements of Startek throughout the years. Startek also behaves as an original design manufacturer (ODM) to help partners in Japan, Italy, South Africa and America. Startek is constantly working with large scale system integrators for projects like the National ID card or law enforcement applications. Startek Engineering Inc. is in the business of designing, developing, manufacturing and marketing products for the capture or verification of fingerprints for security, anti-fraud, law enforcement and other applications. At the core of Startek's products are proprietary fingerprint live-scan technologies developed through the application of expertise. All products produce image data format meeting the standards of ANSI NIST-CLS 1994 FBI document.
