Based on statistical data, tens of thousands of children are severely burnt by scalding water every year. In April 2007, Gateway successfully developed anti-scalding products called the Hot Stop. A special sensor is fitted in these showerheads, hand showers and tub spouts that easily replaces one's existing shower apparatus. When water temperature reaches 120°F, Hot Stop will shut down the water flow to a trickle to prevent scalding. Once the water temperature falls below that safety limit, water will resume flow automatically.
Currently there are no other products on the market with an integrated sensor that is this cheap and effective at preventing scaling accidents. Unlike devices like thermostatic valves, which requires major overhaul of the bathroom, this device is easy and inexpensive to install.
