PEL oil immersed transformers with natural cooling are suitable for both indoor and outdoor installation. These transformers are manufactured to BSS 171, IEC/76 or VDE 0532 tropicalised for suitable operation in Pakistan and the Middle East. The standardized pole mounted transformers up to 200 kVA capacities are sealed type, while all larger sizes are conventional with dehydrating breather. All PEL transformers are offered with corrugated or tubular tanks as per client's request. PEL standard transformers are designed for 11/0.415 kV, 3 phase, 50Hz, Delta-Star connections with neutral brought out in secondary, for 40/50 Celsius temperature rise. Transformers with other primary voltages (upto 33kV), secondary voltages, type of connections and temperature rise can be supplied. However for standard range the delivery periods are shorter. - Windings: Paper insulated high conductivity copper is used for all LV windings and for HV windings of transformers above 300kVA capacity. HV windings of smaller transformers are made from double enameled high conductivity copper wire. In PEL's distribution transformers packet windings are on the HV side which increases the short circuit withstand capacity
- Core: PEL transformer cores are manufactured with high quality cold-rolled silicon steel sheets
- Tank: Tanks are made of deeply corrugated side walls. Alternatively these can be of the tubular type. All tanks are pressure tested before assembly
- HV bushings: the transformers are generally equipped with three high voltage insulator bushings. Where star point connections are required on the high tension side four bushings are provided
- LV bushings: The low voltage side is provided with four porcelain bushings and the neutral is brought out on one of these bushings
- Tap changer: The off circuit tap changer is built in with a vertical shaft and has five operating positions. Deviations from this design can be supplied on special order
- Oil level gauge: The oil level gauge is fitted on the oil conservator and permits direct observation of its contents through a transparent plastic tube. On sealed type transformers, this is fitted on the side wall above the corrugations or tubes
- Roller wheels: The transformers are carried on flatrimmed roller wheels. The axles are easily set over for either broad-side of length-wise travel of the wheels (center distance remaining the same)
- Earthing terminal: Each transformer is provided with an earthing terminal
- Oil draining device: There is an oil draining device at the bottom of the transformer tank from where oil can be drained out. The vent is plugged by a screw cap which makes it possible to wake out even very small quantities for sample testing
- Transformer oil: The transformer is supplied with a first filling of high di-electric strength transformer oil duly tested and treated in PEL works
