Black silicon carbide abrasive is produced in an electric resistance type furnace from quartz and petroleum coke as main raw materials at high temperature. The crystalline materials black in color. Micro-hardness is 3100-3280kg/mm^2. It is brittle and sharp, and has a good electrical and heat conductivity. Abrasive articles made of it are suited for working on cast iron, wood and mineral rocks. Moreover, it can also be used in the manufacture.
