Mini-Printer chosen for forecourt customer loyalty duty: to be compatible with electronic customer loyalty terminals, a printer has to offer low noise and high speed receipt production. The Ap800 mini-printer, from Able Systems, has been chosen by loyalty systems manufacturer, HTEC, in a recent application for Fina. Electronic loyalty schemes are proving to be increasingly important in the highly competitive retail industry. One of the leading suppliers of loyalty terminals and systems, HTEC has installed over 9000 terminals in Europe and North America. These terminals cover general high street retailing and more specialist units for the petrol market and multi-checkout environments of supermarkets and department stores. The counter-top location of Fina's loyalty system means the terminal and printer have to meet certain stringent requirements. It is important that the printer is compact, so it does not clutter the counter or look out of place at the cashier till. Fina approached HTEC to provide a loyalty terminal for use with its new "Fina for You" promotion, which allows customers to accumulate points with the use of a magnetic card. For this purpose, HTEC supplied its 'Galaxy' magnetic card terminal, a fully integrated system which incorporates a customer display and a receipt printer, the Ap800. HTEC chose the Ap800 as it is a thermal printer which produces less noise than impact mechanisms, a primary requirement for Fina and important in all retail environments. Thermal printers are traditionally quicker than impact, and speed is a crucial concern in busy retail situations to ensure smooth flow of trade. Easily interfaced to existing applications, the Ap800 printer has provided HTEC with a low cost, compact solution for receipt production on electronic customer loyalty equipment. HTEC's 'Galaxy' system was piloted at 50 Fina forecourts in December last year and has since been installed at over 500 locations.
