The drag chain conveyor is a well-tried transport system, successfully in use for many decades. It covers an area in material handling where it is superior to any other system. The drag chain conveyor can be used in virtually any industry where granular or "sludgy" material has to be moved, including coal, sand, powder, cement, flour, rice, wheat, gravel, sugar, salt, etc. The drag chain conveyor consists essentially of a drive box connected by two parallel tubes to a tension system. A continuous chain, fitted with "flights" of various shapes and sizes, is pulled through the tubes by a sprocket, driven by a geared motor mounted to the drive station and turned around a sprocket in the tension system. The material is fed in at one end of the conveyor and discharged at the other, there can be multiple discharge points. Idler-assisted bends change the direction of the conveyor in the horizontal or vertical plane. The cross-over conveyor operates as described in the drag chain conveyor system, with one major additional feature. Material which is transported through the conveyor and not completely discharged at the outlet point, is re-cycled and kept in the conveying system. The amount of material entering the feeding point is controlled by the amount discharged, making overfilling and clogging virtually impossible. Drag chain conveyor is mechanically simple, robust and economical, with an excellent life expectancy, good volumetric efficiency, low maintenance required, dust-free, and simple to install. Drag chain conveyors are made in mild or stainless steels in sizes from 100mm upwards, to suit the products being moved, depending on production needed.
