Class D audio amplifier puts out a pulse-width modulated (PWM) signal instead of the typical class-AB audio amplifiers linear signal.
The PWM signal has the audio signal and the PWM switching frequency plus harmonics. Compare with class-AB audio amplifier, the class-D audio amplifier is much more efficient because of the output MOSFETs switch from very high impedance to very low impedance, operating nanoseconds in the active region.
