Zephyr Co.(Pte) Ltd. is a company that specialises in the printing of self-adhesive labels, and nameplates according to the specifications of its customers. With a wide customer base from many different industries, medical, electronics, and computers, to name a few, it is of no surprise that their requirements differ. However, with Zephyr's more that 25 years experience, this is no longer a difficult task. Established in 1970, as a partnership business and incorporated into Pte Ltd. in 10-10-1973, Zephyr has grown in depth and breadth, supplying various types of self-adhesive labels, silkscreen nameplates, including computer printable labels, thermal transfer labels, serialized bar code labels, etc. with UL/CSA approval to its 280 or more customers. With the great number of label machineries, rotary letterpresses, auto-silkscreen machines in this region, Zephyr is able to supply parts to the customers quickly. Therefore, the company has been successful in establishing the JIT, Kan-Ban system etc. with most of its major customers. In 1989, Zephyr adopted the quality scheme launched by SISIR for manufacturers in Singapore, with the concerted effort of all its staff, Zephyr was certified to GMP in March 1990. With the global market trend emphasising ISO 9000 standards, Zephyr registered with SISIR in June 1990, and after about 9 months of preparation and training Zephyr was awarded the ISO 900s certification by SISIR in October, 1991. Besides the improvement in the management system, Zephyr has also computerized its order processing with IBM system 36 in 1988 which was upgraded to AS400 Advance 36 in 1995, and further enhanced its computerization system to include electronics data interchange, electronic mail, electronic graphic design, business data base systems, statistical quality control etc. in 1991 to improve the efficiency, productivity, quality of customer service, product design, material planning and stock control. With the efforts contributed by all staff and continual improvements, Zephyr group achieved $50million turnover in the last financial year. In order to secure the continual growth of the company, planning was made by the management of the strategy of regionalization. Therefore, the company expanded their manufacturing operation to Penang, Malaysia, Zephyr(Penang) Sdn Bhd was established in early 1993 and started its operation in May 1993. Another plant in Johore Bahru, Zephyr Company Sdn Bhd started its operation in March 1994. It is also part of Zephyr's obligation to transfer its knowledge and experiences of ISO 9000 quality management system, computerization system etc. to their overseas branches. With this business net work in the region, gives Zephyr good reasons for being optimistic of its future.
